Fugitive Mehul Choksi has called on the Indian authorities to interview him after he claims he left the country alone for medical treatment. In an affidavit registered before the Dominica High Court, Choksi says “I have extended an invitation to Indian authorities to interview me and ask any questions that they may have of me in relation to any investigation that they are conducting against me”.The 62 times diamantaire demands there was no warrant against him in India when he left to seek medical treatment in the United State. Mehul Choksi had fled India in January 2018 days before his identify came up as part of the PNB scam case. The absconding Indian jeweler faces investigation by the CBI and other Indian enforcement agencies on blames of criminal conspiracy, money cleaning, immorality, criminal breach of trust, cheating and fraud. In response to the prosecution’s charge that he is a flight peril, Chokdi says “I have no intention of absconding from attending court in Dominica … The vicinity of the Red Notice does not perform me a flight hazard. The Red Notice is not an international arrest warrant. It is merely a request by Interpol on behalf of India to set and take steps to facilitate my surrender to India through extradition proceedings. The proceedings have already commenced in Antigua and Barbuda. Therefore, I do not intend to leave Dominica unless to travel to Antigua with the permission of the court.”The missed diamantaire has claimed that he was allegedly kidnapped on May 23 and that the Dominica authorities had a role to play in the abduction. Choksi too claimed his health will deteriorate if taken into custody. “I fear that my health may drastically worsen if I am kept in police custody. I am 62 years old and have serious health problems. I am a diabetic, have a brain clot, have feeling both problems and other medical publications, ” Choksi said trying indemnity.
