Candles, the name by itself sounds soothing in its phonetics. When one thinks of candles, there is a calmness felt, and a sense of serenity. Why not? The glow of the candle is bright yet not harsh on eyes. It creates aura of romance and peace. Which is why candle light dinner came into being, and this is why candle are used in association with worship etc.
These candle making has become a very lucrative business and hobby for many. Since wax naturally floats on water, there is not much of science and techniques in candle making excepting about molding and decorating it creatively.
To begin with, wax is easily available in the market. If you are unable to find fresh wax crystals, you can try making candles by using the wax of the plain old white candle sticks. If you wish to make a floating candle the mould should be light in weight and must have a wide mouthed and smaller bottom mould. If the mouth or the top of the mold is narrower than the base, the mold can easily sink.
Take the wax in a bowl and double boil the bowl in a pan filled with water. Thus there is no direct heat on the wax, and the heat of the water makes the wax melt too. If you wish to make this liquid wax colorful, you can easily do so by adding your choice of color and even add glitter and fragrance if you wish. Pour this liquid colorful liquid wax into the mold allowing it to cool for a while. Once this begins to cool the wax also begins to solidify. Take a wick and place into this semi solid or thick gel, which is yet not solid and can accept the wick. Leave it for a few hours till thoroughly cold to be completely ready.
Take a glass bowl with water. Remove your self created candle from the mold, and place them to float on water and light these personally made colorful candles to add a personal touch on any special occasions.
